Kathryn Loughnan is our Careers Leader across Avonbourne Boys’ and Girls’ Academies as well as United Sixth Form. She has line managed this area for ten years and before entering the education sector was employed for twenty years across diverse industries. Kathryn is passionate about enabling our students to get the best preparation for the world of work. Inspirational Futures focuses on ensuring students are equipped with life long career management skills to enable them to tackle challenges positively within the fast-changing environment of employment.
Kathryn has achieved many accolades in the field of Enterprise and in 2019 won the Best Teacher Award from the Peter Jones Foundation. She has also received recognition for the highest number of work place encounters from Founders 4 Schools.
Every student is entitled to impartial careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG). At United Learning we recognise that providing our students with the right opportunities will increase their aspirations and ensure they are ready for the world of work.
Students will leave Avonbourne Boys’ and Girls’ Academies plus USF having had contact with high-quality and impartial information and guidance. This will enable them to get the most out of their learning and to enable successful progression to further education or training and to have a clearer focus on their career goals.
Students
During your time at Avonbourne Boys’ and Girls’ Academies as well as USF you will get a range of support via the Inspirational Futures Department. This can include 1:1 career guidance, PSHE sessions, trips, work experience, speakers, a careers fair and much, much more.

Parents
We understand the challenges faced when trying to support your son/daughter to make the best decision for their career ambitions. Inspirational Futures offers you as parents the chance to receive up to date information and guidance to ensure you are aware of all the options available.
Kathryn attends options evenings, year 11 & 13 parents’ evenings as well as USF open events to provide both students and parents with up to date Career information.

Providers
Local providers are invited to key relevant events. In addition, external providers interested in coming into school should speak to our Careers Leader to identify the most suitable opportunity.
The school policy on safeguarding sets out the school’s approach to allowing providers into school as visitors to talk to our students.
