It is with great pride and pleasure that I welcome you to the Avonbourne Boys’ and Girls’ Academies website. We are two thriving, non-selective schools for students aged 11–18, based in Bournemouth, and we are privileged to be part of the United Learning multi-academy trust. In addition, we work closely within the Bournemouth and Poole Cluster, sharing best practice with Glenmoor and Winton Academies, Avonwood Primary School, and The Cornerstone Academy.
Avonbourne Boys’ and Girls’ Academies joined United Learning in 2019 and operate as two co-located schools. Lessons are taught in a single-sex environment in Years 7–9, with opportunities for mixed teaching from Year 10 onwards. This model has proved highly successful, allowing us to share resources, expertise, and curriculum opportunities for the benefit of all students. Stakeholders agree that co-location offers the ‘best of both worlds,’ giving our students the strongest possible foundation for educational success. We also host the United Sixth Form, providing exceptional teaching, outstanding facilities, and a caring, supportive environment alongside a rich programme of social and enrichment activities.
At Avonbourne, we are unapologetically ambitious for our students, exposing them to a wealth of opportunities to develop their knowledge, skills, wellbeing, and character. Our commitment to supporting every student in making outstanding progress and becoming the best version of themselves ensures that no child is left behind. By doing so, we open doors to their futures and empower them to contribute positively to society.
Our approach is underpinned by our core values of respect, equality, ambition, community, and hard work. These values guide our actions and decisions, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where every student can thrive. Our commitment to character education is central to everything we do. Through our REACH values — Respect, Equality, Ambition, Community, and Hard Work and Determination , we provide a clear and consistent framework that supports students to grow both academically and personally.
These values are not simply words; they are lived, taught, and celebrated across our school community. They shape our curriculum, guide our relationships, and underpin our expectations, ensuring that every student feels valued, supported, and inspired to succeed.
By placing REACH at the heart of our approach, we aim to develop well-rounded young people who demonstrate integrity, resilience, and empathy. Our students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning, contribute positively to their community, and aspire to achieve their full potential.
We believe that character education is fundamental to enabling our students to flourish — not only as successful learners, but as confident, compassionate individuals who are ready to make a meaningful contribution to society.
We are a highly inclusive school, ensuring that every student’s needs are met. Our most able learners are challenged to excel, while students with special educational needs and disabilities receive expert support. This commitment enables us to bring out the very best in everyone.
We were delighted to celebrate excellent GCSE and A-level results last summer, reflecting the significant progress made across the Academies. Both schools have individually been graded Outstanding in all areas by OFSTED, a testament to the dedication of our staff and the hard work of our students.
I hope you find the information on this website helpful. If you would like to arrange a tour and see first-hand the excellent work being done by our outstanding students, please do not hesitate to contact us.
